More Colorful Art Coming To Lealman As Part Of Mural Project

The Lealman Mural Project is an ongoing partnership between Creative Pinellas and the Lealman Community Redevelopment Area.

LEALMAN, FL — The Lealman Mural project marks a year of bringing art to the Lealman landscape with two milestones; the completion of the "Garden Variety” mural by artist Laura "Miss Crit" Spencer at the Mother Kombucha building on the 28th Street North corridor and the announcement of a new mural coming to Raymond H. Neri Community Park this spring by artist Cory Robinson.

To date, the Lealman Mural project has transformed a generator cover at the Lealman Exchange with two large murals ("Lealman Landmark" and "Better Together") by Leo Gomez and brought a pop of color and joy by artist Cheryl “Jujmo” Weber to the Red Mesa Warehouse also located on the 28th Street North corridor.

“When you see what Laura Spencer has created here - how can it not brighten your day?" asked Barbara St. Clair, CEO of the nonprofit Creative Pinellas, the local arts agency for Pinellas County. “Each one of the murals has a totally different style and that is a tribute to the talented artists who have created them. This one is particularly special in that Laura Spencer is a Lealman resident and we love that, through this project, we were able to support an artist creating something in her hometown. ”

The Lealman Mural Project is an ongoing partnership between Creative Pinellas and the Lealman Community Redevelopment Area with a goal to foster community beautification projects that engage the community, create appealing spaces that uplift and represent the rich culture and environment of this developing area.

The “Garden Variety” mural at Mother Kombucha was an opportunity to partner with a local business to improve the facade of a building that is in a developing business area. The next project will bring a mural to Raymond H Neri Community Park.

Artist Cory Robinson was selected by a panel of Lealman community stakeholders and Creative Pinellas to bring his “playful and uplifting” style to the project that will be the backdrop to a future playground coming to the area.

“This mural program has created a lot of excitement in the community from residents and business owners alike” said Christopher Moore, assistant to the Pinellas County administrator
for the Lealman community. “We are grateful for Creative Pinellas facilitating this process and for finding such great artists, and, of course, the muralists themselves for really paying attention to the things that make Lealman special and translating it into beautiful artwork for everyone to enjoy.“
