Pinellas Sheriff’s Office Employee Arrested, Fired

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office charged one of its own with DUI early Saturday morning.

SEMINOLE, FL — A Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office employee faces DUI charges after deputies say they caught her behind the wheel with a blood alcohol content that was nearly three times the legal limit.

According to the agency, Janet Schreiner, 47, was pulled over around 1:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 in the area of Bay Pines and Seminole Boulevards. Schreiner, who was driving a Toyota truck, failed to maintain a single lane while approaching Seminole Boulevard from westbound Bay Pine, the agency noted in an email to media.

When deputies tried to stop Schreiner, they say she made a northbound turn onto Seminole. When they made contact with her, she identified herself as an off-duty sheriff’s office employee.

“Deputies say that that Schreiner showed signs of impairment and a breath sample indicated she had a BAC of .229/.229,” the agency noted in an email to media. The limit in Florida is 0.08.

Schreiner was charged with one count of driving under the influence and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. She was also let go from her position as a non-certified criminal justice specialist in the agency’s department of detention and corrections, the email said. Schreiner was hired by the sheriff’s office in January 2013.
