Rescue Groups Trying to Fill Void Left By Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary
One nonprofit is in talks with Largo about creating a new rescue facility there following the news that Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary has stopped taking in injured birds due to financial troubles, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Largo parks superintendent Greg Brown has had talks with the nonprofit group Suncoast Bird Rescue about placing a rehab center at McGough Park, according to the Times, but:
Any agreement is far down the road, he said, and would require the City Commission's approval but the idea is that Largo would provide the land and that Suncoast Bird Rescue would provide everything else.

The news comes not long after the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Shores stopped taking in injured birds because of various financial troubles.
Robin Vergara, a former sanctuary employee, heads up Suncoast Bird Rescue, one of several groups hoping to fill the void.  SPCA Tampa Bay is also holding a June summit on how best to handle injured birds, the Times reports.
