Rum Runners Adds Gluten Free Options

The tiki bar located in the rear of the Sirata Beach Resort has launched a new and improved menu that includes gluten free items.

has a reputation for its comfortable accommodations and fun environment. Add gluten free friendly to the Sirata’s list of hospitable attributes. The resort’s outdoor tiki bar, Rum Runners, has been revamped with style and attentiveness.

Although workers are still finishing up the restoration, which is made to emulate the 1920’s, the menu has been solidified and launched.

Marketing Manager, Lois Rodgers says that the change came from the employees at Rum Runners. The crew noticed a growing trend in customers looking and asking for gluten free options.

“The motive behind it was our servers,” said Rodgers.

According to Archives of Internal Medicine, more than two million Americans suffer from celiac disease which is one of the main causes of the need for a gluten free diet. Other factors that could lead to the diet are allergies and doctor’s order.

With the growing population of those needing gluten free options, restaurants are recognizing the demand.

Rodgers says that the “awareness” factor plays a role. If more establishments, like Rum Runners, understood the need for a gluten free menu, those affected by the digestive disorders  would be able to go out to dinner more often, thus breeding business.

The new menu was launched last week and includes gluten free plates like the Jerk Sausage on a Stick ($8.95), the Chicken & Mango Salad ($9.50) and Coconut Flan ($6.95).
