Skimboarders Make Waves on Madeira

Overhead Surf Shop hosted the End of Summer skimboarding competition on Saturday morning. The event drew hundreds, despite the scorching heat.

On Saturday around 7am, competitors emerged from a Madeira Beach access to register for the . The event was hosted by and took place across from the John’s Pass storefront. The competition began around 8:30am and continued into mid-afternoon.

Competitors were given timed heats to skim as many breaks as possible and to perform their fanciest tricks. Judges, made up of professional skimboarders, scored each competitor to decide who would advance.

Participating skimboarders were broken down into three groups, based on ability: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Overhead Surf Shop, located inside the John's Pass Village, is Madeira Beach's one stop shop for all things sunny, from apparel and shades to flip flops and watches.
