Wine Cellar in North Redington Closing

The Wine Cellar has long been a place for making memories.

The North Redington Beach was the place to take prom dates and to celebrate birthdays.

But after more than three decades, the restaurant at 17307 Gulf Blvd. is closing. Forever.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the owners are in negotiations to sell the property to an unnamed retailer for a cool $3.3 million.

The place may serve great prime rib, but it also is at a prime location.

Owners Liesel and Ted Sonnenschein told the Tampa Bay Times that the developer is not Sweetbay. The grocery chain previously had looked at the property but now has a moratorium on new development.

The Wine Cellar has about 45 employees and will close on April 30.

Bay Area Auctions will put the restaurant's contents up for bid May 15.
