Woman Found With Axe In Head Dies 4 Days Later; Pinellas Man Charged

A 56-year-old Pinellas County woman has died after being struck in the head Tuesday with an axe.

PINELLAS COUNTY — A 56-year-old Pinellas County woman has died after being struck in the head Tuesday with an axe.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Lisa Ann Rogers died at Bayfront Hospital on Saturday at 11:04 p.m.

On Tuesday at 10:36 a.m., deputies responded to 4000 24th St. N, Lot 230, in unincorporated St. Petersburg for a report of an attempted murder.

According to detectives, deputies found a Rogers with a hatchet protruding from her head.

The sheriff's office said the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Michael Dougherty, fled from the scene before deputies arrived.

Detectives were able to locate Dougherty's vehicle near Gainesville on Tuesday. According to detectives, on Thursday at 2:50 a.m., Dougherty was pulled over by an Alachua County sheriff's deputy and taken into custody on a warrant for attempted second-degree murder.

On Sunday, those charges were updated to second-degree murder. Dougherty is being held at the Alachua County Jail until he can be transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

According to the sheriff's office, Rogers and Dougherty lived together at the address on 24th Street in unincorporated St. Petersburg.
