Plant City, Florida will be one of the thousands of communities around the globe that will receive a powerful message of hope this November as Jehovah’s Witnesses embark upon a special campaign focusing attention on the Bible’s hope for a better world.
The goal of the campaign is to distribute a special edition of The Watchtower magazine containing the cover series, “A Better World is Near.” More than 36 million printed copies of the magazine are expected to be distributed in some 230 languages to communities in 240 lands around the globe. In addition, the digital publication is available on various platforms in nearly 400 languages.
“People are longing to hear a positive message and this is the best news possible,” said Robert Hendriks, U.S. Spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “A better world is not just a dream, it’s inevitable. In fact, it is the central theme of the entire Bible.”

The magazine addresses the age-old “doomsday” question “Is this world going to end?” with a comforting answer that may surprise many readers. While many religions have predicted the “end of the world,” the magazine reveals the Bible’s clear message: the earth is here forever and will never end! However, the magazine also explains the powerful truth that wickedness will soon be gone, quoting the Bible book of Psalms where it promises that the “lawless one” will be no more. (Psalm 37:10, Rotherham translation)
This positive message has been the hope of millions around the world who have prayed for ‘God’s Kingdom to come,’ a familiar refrain of many Christians taught by Jesus in what some refer to as the Lord’s Prayer. Carlos and Ligia Monteiro of Pompano Beach, Florida, had lost all hope until Bible promises touched their lives. “The society we were raised in, marriage was not a standard. It was sex, drugs and rock and roll,” admits Carlos Monteiro. “We were feeling an emptiness of heart.”

During fourteen years together, although appearing happy and successful, Carlos and Ligia suffered a dysfunctional and bitter relationship. Years of partying, drug use and constant fights led them to a miserable and tempestuous existence. Ligia explored religion and other esoteric movements, but found no satisfying answers for her problems.
Ligia separated from Carlos and was considering whether their situation would remain permanent, when she began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. What she learned changed her life. She said, “When I read in the Bible that death is likened to a deep sleep, that there is no hellfire and I learned about God’s promises for the future, I felt a peace I never thought possible before.”
Carlos also began to study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and what he learned motivated him to make a positive transformation. Carlos explained, “At first it was difficult to get rid of addictions, but Bible texts such as Isaiah 48:17 helped me to see Jehovah God as a reliable guide.”
Now in their early 60s the Monteiro’s have been happily married for twenty-five years and are Jehovah’s Witnesses themselves. They credit daily Bible reading and study for their contentment. Carlos commented, “Although everyday challenges do not disappear, the Bible helps us deal with them and experience true happiness now, and it gives us the wonderful hope of living forever in a better world where anxieties will no longer exist!”.
