Body Found in Sarasota Wooded Area Identified

Breaking: Sarasota County deputies are continuing to investigate the death of a man whose body was found off Colonial Drive Saturday.

SARASOTA, FL — As the details surrounding the death of a Sarasota man remain under investigation, authorities have confirmed the man’s identity.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the body of Simon Montiel, 31, was found in a wooded area near Colonial Drive and New England Street Saturday around 2 p.m. A resident found the body and notified authorities.

The investigation into Montiel’s death remains active, the sheriff’s office wrote in a Tuesday email to media. On Monday, authorities said the cause of death may have been a drug overdose. The final determination, however, will be made by the county’s medical examiner’s office.

It remains unclear how long Montiel was dead before his body was found. The sheriff’s office said Montiel’s last known address was on Camphor Avenue in Sarasota.

No further information is being released at this time.
