Identity of Sarasota Man Found Dead Released

Breaking: The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 31-year-old man.

SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man found dead in a Rita Street home early Tuesday morning.

According to the agency, deputies responded to a home in the 1800 block of Rita Street around 2:25 a.m. Sept. 13 after receiving reports about a shooting. When they arrived, they found James S. Sasser, 31, dead.

The case was originally classified as a shooting investigation, but has since been changed to a death investigation. Deputies say all parties have been accounted for and the investigation remains active.

“As always, an official cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office,” the sheriff’s office wrote in an email to media.

No further information is being released at this time.
