Salmonella Contamination: Diamond of California Recalls Macadamia Nuts

Breaking: Snyder's-Lance has issued a recall for some Diamond of California macadamia nuts sold across the country.

STOCKTON, CA — Macadamia nut fans may want to check the labels on any packages in their pantries. Snyder's-Lance's Diamond of California brand has issued a voluntary recall on certain products due to the risk of possible salmonella contamination.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in people, especially those with weakened immune systems, including young, elderly and frail people. Healthy people who encounter salmonella may experience diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea.

While Snyder’s-Lance, the maker of Diamond of California products, says no illnesses have been reported to date, the recall was issued as a precaution. It was prompted by testing results from a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-contracted laboratory. The test found salmonella within a 4-ounce package of Diamond of California Chopped Macadamia Nuts, the company wrote in a press release.
