Teen Charged in Double Stabbing

Breaking: Sarasota Sheriff's deputies say a 16-year-old boy stabbed his mother and 14-year-old brother.

SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double stabbing that occurred in the 8900 block of Blind Pass Road Wednesday evening.

According to the agency, deputies were called out just before 10 p.m. When they arrived at the Blind Pass Road location, they found two people suffering from stab wounds.

Both victims, a woman from Framingham, Mass., and her 14-year-old son were found with critical injuries, the sheriff's office said. Deputies say the woman's 16-year-old son was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder in the case. The boy, an arrest report said, admitted to the crime.

The family was in the Sarasota area on vacation, deputies noted.

The mother and younger brother were both in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, deputies say.

The 16-year-old was being held in the Sarasota County Jail without bond. Patch is not identifying the boy or his family members due to his age.

No information about a motive in the case was made available by deputies. The arrest report noted the 16-year-old said the family was having a good time on vacation.
