Tips Lead to Heroin, Meth Arrests
Three people face drug-related charges after Sarasota County deputies say they were caught in possession of meth, heroin and fentanyl.
SARASOTA, FL — Tips from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office’s special investigation section resulted in the arrest of three people on drug charges after two separate traffic stops Friday.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were informed that the three were staying in a hotel off Clark Road. Suspected in drug-related crimes, the three were pulled over by deputies as they were driving in two separate cars.
Authorities say they pulled over a silver Audi driven by Shawn Scott, 45. Scott was stopped for driving on an invalid license. When deputies searched him, they found three plastic bags in his shorts, an arrest report stated. Two of the bags field tested positive for heroin. The third tested positive for methamphetamine, the arrest report said.

Deputies also pulled over a car driven by Kerry Lynn Huber, 46. She, too, was driving on a suspended license, according to an arrest report. Huber was in the company of Jason David Szmansky, 37, an arrest report said. After speaking with the two and searching the vehicle, deputies found a baggie stuffed inside a Special K cereal box. The baggie contained fentanyl, meth and an unknown substance that has since been sent to a lab for testing, an arrest report stated.
Szmansky was charged with possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine. Huber was charged with the same offenses. She also faces a driving on a suspended license charge. It is unclear if the two knew Scott.
