Coffee Shop’s Business Brisk as RNC Gets Going

The shop's manager appreciates the heavy law enforcement presence in downtown this week for more than one reason.

A steady stream of customers flowed through the doors at the Indigo coffee shop at Twiggs and Franklin Streets in downtown Tampa on Monday morning.

Manager Katie Senkovich of Seminole Heights says that so far sales are up thanks to the Republican National Convention taking place a few blocks away.

"A lot of police officers are stopping in," she said, noting that Indigo is offering them 50 percent off this week.

"Foot traffic is really good. I'm seeing a lot of people I don't recognize," Senkovich added.

Seeing new faces is key to their success this week. "We lost a lot of regulars. They're not working downtown this week because of the convention."

She says that the protestors who she's seen have been pretty mellow, and she feels safer with all of the law enforcement visible through the store's front windows.

"I feel a lot safer knowing they're out there walking around."
