Police: Suspect Arrested in Homicide Near Rowlett Park

The arrest occurred on Saturday, June 29.

An 18-year-old Tampa man was arrested this weekend in connection with a homicide in Sulphur Springs near Rowlett Park, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Here's what happened, according to police:

On June 9, officers arrived at 8702 North 13th Street and found Edward Howard Jr. lying on the sidewalk. Howard - whose 21st birthday was the day before - had been shot during a fight with a man her knew from the neighborhood, and died as a result of his injuries.

David Irvin, 18, of 8412 N. Mulberry Street, was identified as a suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Police learned that Irvin was hiding inside of a home at 10911 N. Annette Street. 

On June 29, officers contacted residents inside of the home on Annette Street, where Irvin surrendered and was taken into custody.

He was charged with first degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm, in addition to four counts of violation of probation on previous charges, according to Janelle McGregor, spokeswoman for TPD.
