Seminole Heights Bungalow is a Business

Forever Beautiful Hair Salon knows the importance of first impressions. Its restored bunglaow certainly makes an impression with clients.

When Seminole Heights puts out the welcome mat Sunday for its 15th Annual Home Tour, it will include a unique business: Forever Beautiful Hair Salon and Day Spa, next to The Refinery restaurant.

According to a story on TBO.com, owner Elizabeth Graham runs her business from the restored 1908 bungalow, at 5135 North Florida Ave.

"Gorgeous!" may be the exclamation from a satisfied customer at the salon. But it also is the collective reaction of folks who visit the home-turned-neighborhood business.

The story explains that Graham originally thought about transforming a former used car lot on Florida Avenue into her new business. But a local historian, the late Steve Gluckman, convinced her to relocate a vintage bungalow to the North Florida Avenue site and renovate it for her business.

She ended up buying the lot and moving the bungalow and a carriage house from the 1920s to the lot. The carriage house became The Refinery. She opened her salon in 2002.

“It’s empowering for women,” Graham told TBO. “I worked really hard and diligently to get it. It was an enormous undertaking.”

The self-guided tour, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., will have
11 stops including 10 homes and Graham’s relocated bungalow.

Tickets are $15, $20 if purchased on Sunday. The tour begins at the restored Seminole Heights Garden Center on Central Avenue. People can drive, bicycle or hop on and off the Jolley Trolley to see the homes.
