Woman, Firefighter Hospitalized After Blaze

An early Tuesday morning house fire in Old Seminole Heights sent a woman and a Tampa firefighter to the hospital.

TAMPA, FL — An early Tuesday morning fire at a home on Hanlon Street in Old Seminole Heights sent a woman and a firefighter to the hospital.

According to Tampa Fire Rescue, a call about the blaze in the 700 block of East Hanlon Street came in just before 6 a.m. Sept. 19. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the two-story, wood-frame home. “Firefighters made entry and found an adult woman inside the home who required immediate medical attention,” Jason Penny, fire rescue spokesman said.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control by 6:30 a.m. No one else was in the home.

Penny said one of the firefighters on the scene was taken to Tampa General Hospital for evaluation and treatment. The firefighter, who has not been identified, “is expected to return to full duty.”

The agency’s fire investigator said the blaze began in the northwest bedroom, due to “combustibles placed too close to an ignition source.” The damage to the home and its contents is estimated at $75,000.

No further information is being released at this time.
