13-Year-Old Pointed Laser At Sheriff’s Office Helicopter In Tampa: Watch
A teenager was taken into custody for pointing a laser at a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office helicopter in Tampa, the agency said.
TAMPA, FL — A teenager was arrested Sunday for pointing a laser at a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, the agency wrote in a Facebook post. (Watch a video from the helicopter below.)
Though HCSO identified the teen, it’s unknown whether they are being charged as a juvenile or adult yet. It’s Patch policy to not name minors who are charged as juveniles.
The 13-year-old was charged with misuse of a laser lighting device.

While flying over Tampa, the HCSO’s Aviation Section was struck several times by a laser coming from the Avina apartment complex, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies on the ground were guided to the exact location, where they found the teen using the laser and took them into custody.

“Pointing a laser at an aircraft is not a prank. It is dangerous, puts lives at risk. Our deputies will continue working to keep the skies and our community safe,” the sheriff’s office said.
