  1. Clearwater-based composer Larisa Suknov has published a new piano book for students called "Pirate Tales" in celebration of Gasparilla. Suknov grew up in Odessa, Ukraine on the Black Sea and retired in Pinellas County after a long career as pianist and teacher. (Clearwater Patch)
  2. Former State Senator Janet Cruz has raised $70,000 for her campaign for District 3 on Tampa City Council, according to Florida Politics. Her current funding levels are not officially represented yet in Hillsborough County. Her main opponent for the seat is incumbent Lynn Hurtak. (Florida Politics)
  3. Gasparilla celebrations will continue in the coming months. The 16th Gasparilla International Film Festival will run from Mar. 23 to Mar. 26. This year's event will be held at historic Tampa Theatre in downtown. A 3-day pass will cost visitors $120 per person and an all-access pass will cost $500. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
  4. Bouzy, a new champagne bar, will open on Feb. 3 in South Tampa's Hyde Park Village. The bar is located next to Public Studio and Hyde House. The new bar is being opened by Cru Hospitality Group. (That's So Tampa)
  5. Heavweight boxing champion Mike Tyson recently visited Tampa Bay to promote his "Tyson 2.0" products. He shahred secrets for success as well as other knowledge. Tyson chimed in on the future of Tom Brady with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers saying, "I want him to go back to the Buccaneers." (ABC Action News)
