17-Year-Old Charged With Murder In Woman’s Fatal Shooting In Tampa: Hillsborough Sheriff

A 17-year-old boy was charged with murder in the shooting death of a woman whose body was found in a vacant lot in Tampa.

TAMPA, FL — A 17-year-old boy was arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman, days after her body was found in a vacant lot in Tampa, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Though HCSO identified the suspect, it’s unknown whether the suspect is being charged as a juvenile or adult yet. It’s Patch policy to not name minors who are charged as juveniles.

Officers with the Tampa Police Department responded to the 1500 block of North 39th Street on Sept. 19 and found the victim, later identified as 37-year-old Andie Morrell.

The investigation led detectives to a home in the 9400 block of Polak Drive in unincorporated Hillsborough County. Inside the home, investigators found blood evidence and determined the murder happened there, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives identified the teen suspect, who was arrested and charged with murder in the second degree with a firearm - great bodily harm/death.

“It is awful to see a crime like this and to see someone so young resort to such violence,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “I appreciate the strong partnership we have with the Tampa Police Department. We will continue to hold violent offenders accountable and protect the safety of our community.”
