17-Year-Old Killed, 5 Others Injured In Tampa Shooting: Police
A 17-year-old boy was killed in an overnight shooting in Tampa that left five others injured, police said.
TAMPA, FL — A 17-year-old boy was killed and five other people were injured in an early Thursday morning shooting in Tampa, authorities said.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 6000 block of Woodville Street just before 1 a.m., Tampa police said in a news release.
The six victims were standing in the breezeway when an unknown suspect opened fire on them, Chief Lee Bercaw said during a news conference. (Watch the full news conference below.)

Two men, a 21-year-old and a 19-year-old, went to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The 17-year-old was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries, investigators said.

Three other men — ages 22, 21 and 19 — were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting.
“This type of senseless shooting is something that is unacceptable and both the police department and the community will not tolerate,” Bercaw said.

Detectives believe the shooting may have stemmed from a previous dispute. The victims are cooperating with the investigation, he said.
Investigators are seeking witnesses to the shooting as they develop leads in the case.
“We do know that there are witnesses out there. We need those witnesses to come forward,” the chief said. “No matter how small of a detail, it could make a significant impact in this case. Whether it was something that was heard, whether it was a video camera, we need the community to come forward.”
