3 Durant High School Students Injured In Pedestrian Crash

The three students were struck by an SUV as they crossed the road to board a school bus

TAMPA, FL - Two Durant High School students were transported to a local hospital after a pedestrian accident on Miller Road and Bonterra Boulevard, deputies said. The injuries are not considered life threatening, authorities said.

Investigators said a Hillsborough County school bus stopped in the southbound lane of Miller Road about 6:30 a.m. to pick up Durant High School students near the intersection of Miller Road and Bonterra Boulevard. The driver of the school bus activated the bus stop lights and signs to stop traffic for the student's safety.

As three students were crossing the road, a northbound 2003 Jeep Liberty driven by Christian Carlsen, 18, failed to stop and struck three students. Two of the students ages 15 and 17, were transported to Brandon Hospital by ambulance and were listed in stable condition. The third student, 17, complained of a sprained ankle and was driven from the scene by his parents.
