Drivers Top 120MPH While Racing On I-4: FL Troopers

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Three Georgia men were clocked at speeds up to 120 mph early Saturday morning while racing on Interstate 4, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers patrolling I-4 in Hillsborough County spotted a Corvette heading west at 97 mph around 12:45 a.m.

Soon after this, they saw two Challengers traveling with the Corvette. Near mile marker 22 at Park Road, all three cars slowed to 80 mph before they accelerated to speeds of more than 120 mph “in an apparent street race,” FHP said.

The drivers “worked aggressively through traffic, making multiple lane changes and passing on the shoulder,” the agency said.

After pulling over the drivers, troopers learned all three were traveling together from Georgia.

The men — ages 34, 37 and 39 — were arrested for racing on highways and their vehicles were impounded for 30 days under state law.
