7 Schools on Lock-In Status After Shots Fired in Tampa

A report of shots fired along East Cayuga Street has prompted a modified 'lock-in' at seven area schools.

TAMPA, FL — Seven Tampa schools are on modified “lock-in” status Tuesday morning as police officers investigate a report of shots fired in the 1600 block of East Cayuga Street.

According to the Tampa Police Department, Edison Elementary, Lockhart Elementary, Middleton High, Ferrell Middle, Young Middle, the Sanchez Center and Orange Grove Middle are all on “lock-in” status as a precaution.

Police say two men got into an argument shortly after 9 a.m. Nov. 8. As the argument escalated, people reported hearing shots fired.

Police found shell casings in the area, but have not located the two men. No victim has been located either.

Police say the incident between the two men is not related to any of the schools. The modified lockdown was put into place out of an abundance of caution.
