7th Grade Student Found With A Firearm At Webb Middle School

A 14-year-old student at Webb Middle School was arrested Monday after a pistol and ammunition were discovered in his backpack on campus.

TAMPA, FL - A 14-year-old student at Webb Middle School was arrested Monday after a pistol and ammunition were discovered in his backpack on campus, Hillsborough County deputies said.

The 7th grader was charged with possession of a firearm on school property, a felony, and minor in possession of a firearm, a misdemeanor, deputies said.

The Tampa Police Department forwarded an anonymous tip they received over the weekend that a student with the same first name was selling drugs on school property and was known to carry a gun. School administrators conducted an administrative search of the student's property, and discovered an empty Diamondback Arms .380 semi-automatic pistol and two live bullets in his backpack.

The student was arrested and transported to the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the collaboration between Hillsborough County Public Schools and law enforcement's commitment to keep every student safe.
