9/11 Events In Tampa Bay Area To Honor Lives Lost In Sept. 11 Attacks
Events are scheduled throughout the Tampa Bay area on Thursday to honor the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
TAMPA BAY, FL — Americans across the country will honor the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in the Washington, D.C. area and United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania on Thursday, the 24th anniversary of the events.
The following events commemorating 9/11 will take place in the Tampa Bay area:
9/11 Community Service Event

This community service event hosted by St. Petersburg College will take place Thursday, 12:45 to 4 p.m., at the Deuces Food Forest in St. Petersburg.
9/11 Heroes Run 5K - Tampa

This 5K race set for Saturday, 8 a.m., at Park Square at FishHawk in Lithia welcomes runners, ruckers and walkers of all fitness levels and ages.
9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
The Tampa Bay Rowdies will host its fifth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in memory of the first responders who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attacks on Thursday, 8 a.m., at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg. Participants will climb 110 stories or walk 2,200 steps, the equivalent height of the former World Trade Center towers.
Bay Pines National Cemetery
Volunteers are sought for Thursday, Patriot Day, at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg in honor of 9/11. Those participating will clean headstones and beautify the grounds from 9:30 am. To 1 p.m. Register to volunteer online.
Curlew Hills Memory Gardens
A 9/11 memorial ceremony will take place Thursday, 10 a.m., at the Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor. The keynote speaker will be Stephen Siller, Jr. from the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Hillsborough County
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR), Hillsborough County Consumer & Veteran Services, and the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County will host their annual Patriot Day: 9/11 Remembrance eventon Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Veterans Memorial Park & Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Museum in Tampa. Speakers include HCFR Chief Jason Dougherty, Temple Terrace Fire Chief Ian Kemp and Plant City Fire Rescue Chief David Dittman.
Madeira Beach
The Madeira Beach Fire Department will host a 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Thursday, 8:45 a.m., at Patriot Park.
Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue 9/11 Walk
This annual 3.43-mile walk kicks off Thursday, 8 a.m., at Church of the Isles in Indian Rocks Beach.
Tampa Fire Fighters Museum
Tampa Fire Rescue and the Tampa Police Department host a 9/11 memorial ceremony at the museum on Thursday, 9 a.m.
