1. Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise signed an executive order Saturday to extend a state of local emergency under authority granted by the County's Emergency Management Ordinance and Chapter 252, Florida Statutes, according to county officials. The continuation of the emergency order, which must be renewed every seven days to remain valid, allows the county to be able to quickly address concerns from the disaster. (Bay News 9)
2. Sal Y Mar Rooftop Bar, located at Midtown Tampa, is hosting its first rooftop Halloween party for those ages 21 and older called The Haunted Halls of Sal Y Mar on Saturday, Oct. 29. The extravaganza will feature specialty drink stations, multiple dance areas, and "undead" DJs spinning Top 40s, Hip-Hop, and Latin music including Bachata, Reggaeton, Salsa and Merengue. 3. Online retail giant Amazon is on a hiring spree this holiday season. The company plans to hire over 150,000 workers including 1,500 just in the Tampa Bay area. Employees will earn $19 on average. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Business Journal, Free: WTSP)
4. An art exhibition called BANKSYLAND is heading to the Tampa area from Nov. 18 to Nov. 20 of this year. Tickets are already available online. The art company behind the display aims "to inspire social change through art that captures the attention of diverse audiences and unites cultures." (That's So Tampa)
5. Vosler Young Artists’ Studio in Brandon is offering art classes for children, teenagers, and adults. Founder Kerry Vosler says they are "the only art school certified in the Greater Tampa Bay area and one of five in the state of Florida." Classes meet each Sunday from September through May and the school has open enrollment for those interested. (Osprey Observer)
