1. Texas-based Torchy's Tacos is planning an expansion into the Tampa Bay area. Torchy's is well-known for its variety of breakfast tacos, smoked brisket, burritos, and more. The taco chain will open a location in Pinellas first with a Tampa opening date not yet available. (That's So Tampa)
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and wife Gisele Bündchen have both hired divorce attorneys as rumors reach a fever pitch that the quarterback's decision not to retire from football has heavily strained their marriage, according to Page Six. Brady initially announced his retirement in January before backtracking and reversing his decision. (Tampa Patch)
3. A Tampa woman is a "person of interest" in the ongoing investigation and litigation into Gov. Ron DeSantis over migrants sent from Texas to Martha's Vineyard using Florida taxpayer funds. Perla H. Huerta, 43, is a former Army combat medic in counterintelligence and moved to Tampa in 2018. Huerta allegedly worked with DeSantis to lure Venezuelan migrants fleeing dictator Nicolás Maduro and convinced them to take Florida taxpayer-funded transportation up north where they were then left stranded on the road. 4. Polk County Deputy Blane Lane was shot and killed by friendly fire during the execution of a felony search warrant early Tuesday morning at 3 a.m. Deputies were at a trailer serving Cheryl Lynn Williams, 46, when the incident occurred. Williams allegedly drew a BB gun, which caused deputies to open fire and fatally injure Lane. Williams was hospitalized with multiple gunshots after the shooting as well but is expected to survive. 5. Global investment firm Baird is moving one of its local offices over to Water Street Tampa on the ninth floor of Thousand & One office tower. The office will host the global investment banking branch of the business. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times)

- A Tampa man is accused of stealing power tools meant for the victims of Hurricane Ian. Bryan Ortiz, 35, was arrested at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday near U.S. Highway 41 and East Bird Street, according to Tampa Police Department (TPD). (WTSP)
- Gov. Ron DeSantis attacked the "national regime media" for forecasting that Hurricane Ian would hit Tampa, amid criticism over the delay in evacuating Fort Myers by officials by residents and news media. At least 100 people have been reported dead so far. (Florida Politics, Subscription: New York Times)
- The Human Society Tampa Bay shared, "Adoption fees are waived through Friday, Oct. 7, on all dogs 30 pounds or larger! One of these could be your new fur-baby!" (Humane Society of Tampa Bay via Facebook)
- Hillsborough County Public Schools shared: "RESCHEDULED HISPANIC HERITAGE EVENT UPDATE!
