- Incumbent City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor has a new opponent. Tampa attorney and community advocate, Belinda Noah, has filed to run against Castor for the mayor of Tampa. Noah is of African American and Native American descent and a graduate of the University of South Florida and Florida State University College of Law as well as Widener University School of Law. She has also worked as an adjunct legal professor. (Tampa Patch)
- The Tampa Bay Jewish Food Festival is returning Sunday, Feb. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Orders for food must be placed by Jan. 29. Prices for dishes range from $2.75 to $25 and anyone who spends more than $100 will receive free insulated bags with their order. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
- A new office lease has been signed at Water Street Tampa with PEI Global Partners Holdings LLC, a New York-based investment firm, according to Stategic Property Partners, LLC (SPP). The opening of the new office at Water Street's Thousand & One is part of a strategic move to build an office in Tampa as the city grows. (Tampa Patch)
- Deviant Libation is a new brewery at 3800 N. Nebraska Ave. in Tampa's Ybor Heights. A grand opening date is set for Friday, Jan. 27 from 4 to 9 p.m. The project is part of a new art gallery development called Crab Devil. (That's So Tampa)
- Former USF accountant Ralph Puglisi, who pleaded guilty over a year ago to federal charges in connection with a nearly $13 million scheme involving money from the university, did not show up to jail on his scheduled voluntary reporting date. Investigators claimed the accused man "used the cards for home furnishings, trips and gifts." (WFLA)
