Davis Islands Boat Ramp Closed for Repairs

Work should be completed in December for the project, city officials say.

A few weeks ago, we reported on an improvement project at the Davis Islands dog beach and boat ramp.

Today, city officials announced the closure of the boat ramp until December for construction. Meanwhile, the dog park will remain open.

Work on the $273,082 project began in June by the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, according to a news release from city officials. An off-shore breakwater, artificial reef modules and new sand to prevent further erosion are key components of the project.

Beach erosion occurred after waves from passing ships exposed rubble and made it unsafe for dogs and their owners.

The city also plans to repair and repave the boat ramp and add landscaping to the shoreline.
