1. Dillard's clearance center is set to officially close its doors for business for good on April 28, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The store is located at 2201 University Square Mall in Tampa not far from the University of South Florida. (Tampa Patch)
2. Pied Piper Productions will present the XOXO Carnival at Armature Works from May 4 to May 8. The special event will feature carnival thrill rides, circus and fair food, as well as live music names, such as The Black Honkeys, Shaggy and the Circus Cowboys. Lil John, and DeadMau5 are also set to perform at the carnival. (That's So Tampa)
3. A proposed new ordinance would mandate that landlords in Tampa provide 60 days notice before increasing a tenant's rent. The ordinance would also make it so that renters on month-to-month leases would receive 30 days notice before being removed from a property by a landlord. Protections for tenants on notices and rent increases are currently not codified into City of Tampa. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
4. St. Petersburg is proposing subsidizing some city employees rent as rising costs drive long-time residents away from the area. The city council and housing officials plan to meet with union representatives to figure out more details on a proposal in June. (Bay News 9)
5. The 67,019-square-foot The Corner at Westshore was recently sold for $44.5 million to automobile dealer Bruce Qvale, who bought the property as part of a 1031 Exchange. Qvale runs Qvale Auto Group which owns Volkswagen Brandon and Audi Lakeland. The property is in the Westshore District, across the street from International Plaza and home to retailers and restaurants including The Container Store, Olive Garden, AT&T and Sleep Number.
