Eat at Joe's

The next Eat at Joe’s Lunch and Concert Series of this summer will take place Friday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, at Joe Chillura Courthouse Square across from County Center.

Stacey Knights will sing and perform on the saxophone.

Visitors can bring their own lunch, purchase food at the park or buy a boxed lunch from a local restaurant.

Three food-truck vendors will offer lunch for purchase: NatePaul's Q4U will offer barbeque; LaPetite France will offer crepes; and Michelle Faedo's on the Go will feature Tampa traditional deviled crabs and Cuban sandwiches. Other downtown eateries are being asked to have grab-and-go lunches available.

Knights, a native of Massachusetts, is currently based in southwest Florida. Audiences have come to love her as a vocalist, songwriter, saxophonist and flutist, who elegantly weaves all the glistening strands of her talent into each brilliant performance.

Knights debuted as a songwriter at the age of 10. As a professional artist, she has produced three CDs. On her second CD, While You Dream, Knights wrote and performed a tribute to Thelonius Monk, with a song titled Morning Monk, which won first prize in the March Jazz Competition sponsored by American Idol Underground (AIU). As a result of this win, she was named a Best Emerging Artist of 2006 by American Idol Magazine.

This June, Knights placed second in the AIU - Big Push II competition for her original song Doin’ Nothin’ With You.

In the last few years, Knights has been the opening act for many headliners, and she has headlined and toured with her own group throughout Florida, Texas, Ohio and the Northeastern states.

Eat at Joe’s was Commissioner Al Higginbotham’s idea to bring more attention and use to the county’s downtown park. The summer-long event is a partnership among the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department; the Arts Council of Hillsborough County; the City of Tampa; and the Tampa Downtown Partnership.

The concert series will be held every second Friday of the month throughout the summer. Keep track of the performer and good vendors at www.hillsboroughcounty.org/parks.
