Ex-Tampa Cop Charged in Sexual Assault
Breaking: Chief Eric Ward announced the former Tampa Police officer's arrest Thursday.

TAMPA, FL — A Tampa Police Officer fired back in March following sexual assault allegations now faces formal charges. Chief Eric Ward announced the arrest of Adam York on Thursday.
According to an arrest report, the charges against York stem from an early morning traffic stop conducted on Feb. 1 in the area of Kennedy Boulevard and West Shore. The woman pulled over for speeding, told authorities the law enforcement officer involved sexually assaulted her.
The victim, who is not being identified, underwent a sexual battery exam following the alleged assault, the report said. York's DNA was found in her underwear, the report added.

The search for the officer involved took some time, authorities said, because the woman could not identity the officer by name or the agency he worked for. Although York, a 12-year veteran of the force, was relieved of his duties in March, charges weren’t filed until this week.
York was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail Thursday on one count of sexual battery. He was later released in lieu of $15,000 bond, jail records indicate.

After his arrest, York denied the charges, the police report noted.
Ward, in announcing the arrest, said the investigation was a “shock and disappointment” to everyone at the Tampa Police Department.
