USF Student, 22, Killed In Fletcher Avenue Crash

A University of South Florida student was killed in a Friday morning crash on Fletcher Avenue.

TAMPA, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Friday morning crash that claimed the life of a 22-year-old University of South Florida student.

According to the agency, Andres Alfredo Castillo of Tampa was riding a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 636 east on Fletcher Avenue around 10:19 a.m. June 23. As Castillo neared the intersection with 50th Street North, deputies say Shavarra R. Cobb, 34, of Tampa was heading west on Fletcher in a Hyundai Elantra.

Cobb, an email from the sheriff’s office said, made a left turn into the motorcycle’s path. “Mr. Castillo braked and laid the motorcycle on its side,” the email said. Castillo, however, “struck the right rear of the Hyundai.”
