Record-High Temps Likely In FL This Week, See Latest Forecast

Weather officials on Monday predicted summertime temperatures this week in Florida. See how hot it can get in your town.

FLORIDA — With high temperatures in the 90s this week in the Tampa Bay area, it will feel like 100 degrees for the first time this spring ahead of the unofficial start to summer, forecasts say.

The National Weather Service on Monday predicted highs in the mid- to high 90s and lows in the 70s in the Tampa region.

While Miami and other Florida cities will face temperatures in the upper 80s, the NWS said temperatures in Tampa could reach as high as 97 degrees.

Heat value indices, or the apparent temperatures that include humidity levels, could climb to 100 on Monday. They are also known as "feel-like temperatures."

"Expect another hot week ahead with record challenging highs inland," said WFTS in Tampa. "Coastal areas will still be hot but not as hot as inland spots thanks to the sea breeze."

Of course, the heat will come before storms arrive on Thursday, possibly Friday. The strength of the storms was not immediately available.

Thursday has the greatest chance for rainfall, with the NWS forecasting a 20-30 percent probability. The storms may arrive before 2 p.m. Thursday in Tampa.

Orlando may expect showers sooner with the NWS surmising rainfall after 5 p.m. Monday in the central Florida town, where a high temperature of 95 degrees was anticipated.

  • Tampa: 94 degrees on Friday
  • Jacksonville: 96 degrees on Tuesday
  • Miami: 89 degrees on Wednesday
  • Orlando: 96 degrees on Tuesday
  • Lakeland: 96 degrees on Tuesday
  • Sarasota: 88 degrees on Monday
  • Port St. Lucie: 95 degrees on Wednesday

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 99. Light south wind becoming southwest 5-10 mph in the morning.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 76. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 92. Light southwest wind becoming west 6-11 mph in the morning.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 78. West wind 3-8 mph.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Light northwest wind becoming west 5-9 mph in the morning.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 94. North wind 5-8 mph.
