1. The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts (FMoPA) is relocating to Ybor City from downtown Tampa. "The new museum will feature over 3,000 square feet of exhibition space, including a separate Community Gallery. As usual, we will continue in FMoPA's tradition of exhibiting important photographic works. FMoPA will be closed during the move beginning on Jan. 19, 2023, until the new space is fully renovated," the museum posted in a statement. (That's So Tampa)
2. Tampa residents who were in the Florida Keys for the holidays witnessed hundreds of migrants from Cuba landing on the shore in the Dry Tortugas. "The National Park Service just did the most fantastic job you could possibly imagine. They were bringing the people ashore, they gave them all basic medical, they had food and water for each of them, they were providing them food, looking after them," the Tampa residents shared. (WFLA)
3. A 37-year-old man was arrested in Hillsborough County after being accused of stabbing a person to death with a broken beer bottle at a New Year's Eve party. The suspect has been charged with second-degree murder with a weapon. Police said the incident happened at Palm Flat Apartments at around 5:15 a.m. on New Year's Day. (Tampa Patch)
4. Pasco County Schools will soon require students to use restrooms based on their biological sex assigned at birth, regardless of the student's gender expression or identity. It will be the first time the district wades in the gender bathroom dispute. The school district held off for five years in implementing the policy and there is active litigation in Florida over gender bathroom laws. (Fox 13 Tampa)
5. Hillsborough County parents are raising concerns that some students may become ineligible for school bus transportation due the Florida Board of Education's 2-mile radius rule once the county changes school district boundaries. The concern comes amid a growing effort to slow down the decision-making process sought by the county. (Florida Politics)
