Fugitive Wanted In MI Homicide Arrested In FL: Hillsborough Sheriff

After his lost wallet was turned in to police, deputies arrested a fugitive in a 2023 Michigan homcide case, the Hillsborough sheriff said.

TAMPA, FL — A fugitive wanted in connection with a 2023 homicide case in Michigan was arrested by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, the Temple Terrace Police Department contacted HCSO after someone returned 34-year-old Daniel Ray Partee’s wallet to their office.

When they were given the wallet, investigators found Partee’s Florida driver’s license with a Tampa address. They also learned that he had an active fugitive warrant from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

During the arrest, deputies found a clear plastic bag with several Xanax bars on Partee, the sheriff’s office said. He faces an additional local charge of possession of a controlled substance.

"No matter how far you run or how well you think you can hide, we will find you," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "This arrest demonstrates that violent criminals cannot escape justice by crossing state lines. Our deputies worked with our law enforcement partners to ensure this dangerous fugitive was taken off our streets. We will continue to pursue anyone who thinks they can commit heinous crimes elsewhere and find refuge in Hillsborough County. Justice may be delayed, but it will not be denied."

Partee is currently being held pending extradition proceedings to Michigan to face charges related to the homicide case.
