Here are the top five stories in Tampa today:
1. A middle school student at Franklin Middle School in Tampa is facing charges after bringing a gun to school Wednesday, authorities said. The teenager said that he "brought (it) from home for protection," according to police. No threats were made to the school or any students. (Tampa Patch)
2. Tampa Water Department is temporarily using chlorine instead of chloramine to treat water until October 3. The routine change is meant to protect the quality of drinking water, according to the water department. Customers sensitive to chlorine could notice a strong smell or taste of chlorine during the temporary change. (WTSP)
3. A former teacher at Point of Grace Christian School, 39-year-old Julie Hoover, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly twerking on a student, according to authorities. Hoover is accused of dancing on a student at prom. She is facing a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and a second felony charge of an authority figure soliciting or engaging in lewd conduct with a student. (WFLA)
4. An exhibit featuring artifacts from the World Trade Center opened Friday in New Port Richey's Sims Park and will be open through Sunday for the city's 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. The exhibit also includes guided tours from FDNY Firefighters who responded to Ground Zero. The mobile exhibit has traveled since 2013 reminding Americans of the tragic day in U.S. history and the heroes who tried to save lives. (Fox 13)
5. Tampa Police officers served search warrants on Tuesday night for three rooms at the Haven Inn located at 7007 North Nebraska Avenue, following a two-month investigation. Police arrested three people and confiscated two handguns, cocaine, fentanyl and synthetic cannabis. Additional arrests are expected. (Tampa Patch)

- 360 Eats is a non-profit food rescue service working on "cutting down on food waste". The non-profit is hosting a food truck launch event and fundraiser on Saturday, October 15 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Clearwater. (Bay News 9)
- Captel Service Specialists, a subsidiary of Madison, Wisconsin’s Ultratec Inc., announced in July plans to lay off 104 employees in its Tampa office at 10500 University Center Drive starting September 20 and is now increasing that number to 164 employees. The changes come amid new technology that automates the captioning for some customers. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times)
- The Florida Holocaust Museum has launched its 8th Annual Trunks of Hope campaign at TheFHM.org/Trunks, guaranteeing that teachers and students have access to free Holocaust Education tools and resources needed as they return to school.
