Here are the top stories today in Tampa:
1. Hillsborough County commissioners have voted 5-2 to appeal the judge's ruling that the "All For Transportation" tax is misleading. Commissioners Ken Hagan and Stacy White voted against the appeal. Early voting ballots are already being mailed out by the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections. (WUSF)
2. Police said they believe an incident Friday evening where a man was found shot to death on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge fishing pier was a targeted attack, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. 3. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay announced the birth a 150-pound rhino male calf on Thursday. The theme park is still looking to name him and asking the public for help in the naming process. Name choice include Viazi, Vumbi, and Bahati. (Tampa Patch)
4. Frontier Airlines introduced new green tech at Tampa International Airport this week. The enhancement offers what Frontier said "the most fuel efficient, lowest carbon-emitting engine" for the A320neo family aircraft used by the airline. (That's So Tampa)
5. Tampa's Stanton IP Law Firm is expanding to offices in New York, Boston, and Washington D.C. Founder, Thomas Stanton, attended the University of South Florida and Stetson University College of Law and has no plans to change his home as Tampa, citing the city as "an up-and-coming city in the tech scene, for its size." - City of Tampa is hosting a donation drive to help families impacted by Hurricane Ian. Drop-off sites will open across the city starting on Monday, Oct. 17 and changing daily. Drop-off sites include Himes Avenue Sports Complex, MacFarlane Park, Al Lopez Park, New Tampa Rec Center, and Perry Harvey Sr. Park. (City of Tampa)
- Bucs quarterback Tom Brady was fined $11,139 by the NFL for attempting to kick Atlanta Falcons defensive end Grady Jarrett on a sack in the team's 21-15 victory over the Falcons last week, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. (ESPN)
