Hillsborough County Schedules Fair Housing Public Workshops

Tampa and Hillsborough County are required to report findings to HUD.

TAMPA, FL – During the last week in September, residents from around Hillsborough County are invited to participate in workshops that will help report fair housing issues to the federal government.

Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa and the Tampa Housing Authority are inviting the public to provide input on fair housing issues through a series of seven workshops and an online survey. Hillsborough County’s Affordable Housing Services is hosting a series of community meetings to inform the public about the Assessment of Fair Housing.

The online AFH survey is open to Hillsborough County residents, landlords, real estate professionals, lending institutions, housing providers and other stakeholders. Both the English language version and the Spanish language version are available to complete through Sunday, Oct. 9.

The Assessment of Fair Housing is required every five year by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It is design to help communities and housing authorities prevent and combat discrimination, foster inclusiveness and removed barriers to housing opportunities based on race, color, religion, disability and a number of other factors.

The workshops are scheduled for:

Monday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.

  • West Tampa Library, 2312 W. Union St., Tampa
  • Town ‘N Country Regional Public Library, 7606 Paula Drive, Tampa

Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.

  • Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. Platt St., Tampa
  • Bruton Memorial Library, 302 W. McLendon St., Plant City

Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m.

  • University Area Community Development Corporation, 14013 N. 22nd St., Tampa

Thursday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.

  • Cyrus Greene Comminty Center, 2101 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Tampa
  • Hillsborough County SouthShore Community Resource Center, 201 14th Ave. SE, Ruskin

Hillsborough County will also host a public hearing on the Regional Assessment of Fair housing on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. during the regularly scheduled Board of County Commissioners meeting on the second floor of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa.
