1. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is celebrating its 40th anniversary with screenings at movie theaters around Tampa Bay on Friday, August 12. Many AMC theaters will host the special film event. (Myq105)

2. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) are searching for suspects in a smash-and-grab that happened at the Citrus Park Town Center on Tuesday. Police say three masked men accessed an employee entrance at the mall and used hammers to break display cases at the Diamond Galleria, stealing $100,000 worth of merchandise. (Tampa Patch, WFLA)

3. Hillsborough judge Jared Smith is under scrutiny for allegedly running attack ads without a disclaimer of his involvement, a violation of Florida Election law breaking with judicial ethic code. The ads calls his opponent, Nancy Jacobs, "woke" and a part of the far left's "activist agenda." (Creative Loafing Tampa)

4. Asiatic Street Food has opened a new location in Carrollwood. It has the same owners as the location in Ybor City. The new location is at 3825 Northdale Boulevard. They offer lunch and dinner and have a variety of Asian foods including Thai and Vietnamese food. (That's So Tampa)

5. Steve MacDonald, one of Tampa's top tech industry leaders, has led a $2 million funding round for a tech company in the cannabis space. The company called Kush.com is an online retailer for CBD and cannabis products. (Tampa Bay INNO)

  • Hillsborough County leaders have approved new requirements for landlords to give tenants 60 days notice of pending rent increases greater than 5% and to give at least 30 days notice if a lease is not being renewed.   • "Holiday Cosplay Tampa Bay," a winter-themed comic convention event is coming on December 10-11 to the Tampa Convention Center. It will showcase a handful of nationally-recognized anime voice actors, comic artists and cosplayers. (Tampa Bay Newswire)
