Here are the top stories today in Tampa:

1. The inaugural House Hillsborough Recognition Breakfast is happening today, Nov. 1, at 7:30 a.m. at the University Club, 201 N. Franklin St., 38th Floor from Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative. The event will recognize leaders battling homelessness in the community. The group seeks to make homelessness rare by "asking everyone in the community to give .1 percent of their salary" to help the counties most vulnerable. (Tampa Patch)

2. Hillsborough County is offering permits for psychics for less than $3,000 for those interested in the field. The code reads, "Every fortuneteller, clairvoyant, palmist, astrologer, phrenologist, character reader, spirit medium, absent treatment healer, or mental healer and every person engaged in any occupation of a similar nature shall pay a business tax of $225." Those who operate without a permit could be prosecuted by the county. (WFLA)

3. The 7th Annual Hillsborough County Hiking Spree starts today, Nov. 1, and offers residents another year outdoors in the community's parks and preserves. More than 2,000 people registered their dogs for last year's Hiking Spree. The list features 26 trails at 24 locations in the county. (Tampa Patch)

4. Tampa-based law firm Carlton Fields is launching a privacy and cybersecurity consulting practice to help executives navigate increasingly compliance requirements. It will be called "CTRL" and cover data ethics, contracts and vendor management, business certifications, and more. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Business Journal)

5. Blackbrick restaurant from Chef Richard Hales is opening in Tampa on Nov. 15 and reservations are now available online. The gourmet Chinese restaurant concept is already successful in South Florida. Lunch will run around $20 per entree with dinner closer to $40. (That's So Tampa, Creative Loafing Tampa)
