Identity of Tampa Murder Victim Released

A woman was found in a Tampa road Thursday, suffering from head wounds that would prove fatal.

TAMPA, FL — As the Tampa Police Department continues to investigate the death of a woman found in a street Thursday, its officers have released the woman’s identity.

According to the agency, Latoya D. Smith, 30, was found in the 2100 block of West Flora Street Thursday afternoon, suffering from head injuries. Smith was taken to a local hospital, but died later from her injuries.

The investigation into Smith’s death remains active with detectives following “promising leads,” the agency wrote in an email to media. “The murder does not appear to be random,” the agency noted.
