At Least $15K In Stolen Merchandise Recovered In Brandon: Sheriff
A woman stole between $15K and $20K worth of items from various retail stores in Brandon, the Hillsborough County sheriff said.

BRANDON, FL — More than $15,000 in stolen merchandise was recovered in a retail theft operation in Brandon, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Detectives with HCSO’s Organized Retail Theft Unit were conducting an operation at Regency Square Plaza on Tuesday when they saw a woman, later identified as Stephanie Valdez, 46, placing several items into her purse while inside a store.
After she left the store without attempting to pay, Valdez was stopped by detectives outside.

Investigators saw “in plain view” several bags filled with retail items in her vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
Detectives found stolen goods from various retail stores worth between $15,000 and $20,000.

Valdez admitted to repeatedly shoplifting since February. She was charged with felony petit theftft and further charges may be forthcoming.
"Let me be clear, retail theft is a crime, and it will not be ignored," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "When someone steals thousands of dollars in goods, they are not just targeting a store, they are stealing from our community. We will not allow criminals to treat hardworking people and businesses as easy targets."
