Local Food Truck Battling in National Competition
The Twisted Iron is competing in the Thomas' Breakfast Battle.
TAMPA, FL – For Elaine Thompson and Lokesh Vale, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In 2014, the two co-founded The Twisted Iron, a food-truck business that delivers sweet and savory waffles around the Tampa Bay area.
Now, the pair are hoping their breakfast will deliver in a different way: By competing in the Thomas’ Breakfast Battle.
The Twisted Iron is one of 50 food trucks around the country that are battling it out to create America’s best breakfast recipe. All contestants must use Thomas’ English muffins and bagels to create the ultimate breakfast recipe inspired by the cuisine of their food truck.

Fans of The Twisted Iron can vote one time daily until Sunday, Sept. 18 to keep the local team in the contest. Each week of the five-round contest, half of the contestants will be eliminated until the final food truck recipe is selected on Sunday, Oct. 16.
With waffles as their specialty, Thompson and Vale created “Waffled” Monte Cristo with Strawberry Jam for the contest. The recipe takes a traditional Monte Cristo sandwich (ham and cheese with bread prepared like French toast) with Thomas’ English Muffins and heated in a waffle iron. The recipe is located on The Twisted Iron’s contest page.
