Man Critically Injured In FL Shootout, Suspects Sought

A man was shot and critically injured during a shootout in Tampa, police said. Officers are searching for those involved.

TAMPA, FL — A man was critically injured in a Sunday morning shootout, Tampa police said in a news release.

Police received ShotSpotter notifications of possible gunfire in the 3600 block of N. Whittier Street and a 911 call reporting a person had been shot in the area just after 6 a.m.

Officers who responded to the scene within minutes found a Black man in his early 30s lying on Whittier Street, just north of 28th Avenue, with a gunshot wound, police said.

Tampa Fire Rescue brought him to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition on Monday.

A preliminary investigation showed that two vehicles at the scene were hit by multiple rounds of gunfire, police said. Evidence suggests a shootout took place in the area.

Detectives are working to identify those involved in the incident and what led to the shooting.
