A man was charged with child abuse after hitting a child in the head with a belt buckle on Friday in Tampa, the Hillsborough sheriff said.

TAMPA, FL — A man was charged with child abuse after hitting a child in his care in the head with a belt buckle on Friday, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Deputies responded to reports of batter in the 12500 block of Oaks Place in Tampa.
They found the child had been hit in the head multiple times with the belt buckle and needed medical attention.

Oscar Castillo Alvarenga, 44, was arrested and charged.
"Every child deserves a loving and safe place to call home, and this man's actions are reprehensible," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "We are committed to protecting our most vulnerable residents and holding those who harm children accountable."
