Man's Body Recovered From Tampa Bay

Police say a body recovered from Tampa Bay Sunday morning is believed to belong to a swimmer reported missing Saturday.

TAMPA, FL — The search for a swimmer who went missing on Saturday afternoon in waters off Cypress Point Park is believed to be over. The Tampa Police Department announced Sunday morning that its marine unit had recovered a man’s body from the bay.

The search for Robert A. Lucas, 36, began shortly before 3 p.m. July 1 when police were notified about a missing swimmer at the 5620 Cypress St. beach. Lucas had gone to the park with his family, authorities said.

A search for Lucas kicked off Saturday afternoon and ended around 9:40 p.m. Sunday. Police say the marine patrol found a body in 10 feet of water, about 50 feet from where Lucas had last been seen swimming.
