1. "Honors to Mothers of the World (Honramos Dia de las Madres)" is now on display to the public once again after being professionally treated and relocated by art conservators to its new site at the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, 1002 E Palm Ave., in Ybor City. The exhibit comes just in time for Mother's Day. (Tampa Patch)

2. Rising food costs are straining Tampa's food banks. Requests for food, housing, rent and utility assistance have gone up by 500 percent since last fall, according to Justine Burke of Tampa-based non-profit Metropolitan Ministries. Feeding Tampa Bay estimates there are as many as 1 million food insecure people in the region, a slight decrease from earlier in the pandemic. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times)

3. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Tuesday whom they said allegedly abused a child. An affidavit said the victim told authorities that 46-year-old Donnie Barfield of St. Petersburg attacked her after she hung up on him. After being read his rights, Barfield told authorities “he would do it again,” according to the affidavit. (WFLA)

4. The drama between the Tampa City Council and the Mayor's office continues with a federal investigation. "All of us found out on Friday through a press conference the Mayor had that the city has been under the second Justice Department investigation for civil rights in seven years," said Council Member Bill Carlson. (Florida Politics)

5. Leaven Brewing in Riverview is celebrating their fourth anniversary with "A Very Merry Unbirthday" celebration this weekend. The fun began on Friday and continues today from 12 p.m. to midnight. Guests can enjoy more than 30 beers on tap, live music, delicious food, an Alice in Wonderland-themed costume contest and more. (Tampa Patch)

  • A new exhibit called "Cuban Pathways" is now on view at Tampa Bay History Center. It collects 500 years of Cuban history and displays it through Vision Finders, interactive displays, and a recovered chug boat. (That's So Tampa)
  • Tampa lawyer Hoyt Prindle III announced on Thursday he will be running for Tampa City Council in next year's municipal election. He will seek the District 6 seat covering most of west Tampa, along with Lowry Park and parts of the Sulphur Springs, Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights and midtown areas. (Florida Politics)
  • St. Pete’s Development Review Commission has unanimously approved a 23-story apartment tower at 155 17th Street South in downtown St. Pete. (St. Pete Rising)
  • Hillsborough County’s first MetroLagoon is opening in Wimauma’s Southshore Bay community on Friday, May 13. The MetorLagoon includes seven acres of crystal-blue waters, sandy beaches, and a wide range of activities, including paddleboarding, kayaking, floating adventure course, and family beach.
