Northbound I-275 Lanes Between I-4 And Martin Luther King To Close

TAMPA, FL — All northbound Interstate 275 travel lanes from the Interstate 4 interchange to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (State Road 574) will close on Friday, June 9, from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.

This temporary closure is necessary for crews to perform overhead sign structure work as part of the I-275 Capacity Improvements project.

During this closure, all northbound I-275 drivers will proceed toward Exit 45B, continue east on I-4, exit the interstate using Exit 3, continue through the intersection and turn north onto U.S. 41/State Road 583 (50th Street/56th Street), turn west onto Hillsborough Avenue and continue west toward the northbound I-275 entrance ramp.

Other drivers traveling west on I-4 or north on the I-4 Connector needing to access northbound I-275 will exit the interstate using Exit 3,continue through the intersection and turn north onto U.S. 41/SR 583 (50thStreet/56th Street), turn west onto Hillsborough Avenue and continue west toward the northbound I-275 entrance ramp.

Electronic message boards and temporary signage will assist drivers traveling around this area. Drivers should expect delays and congestion during this detour.

The $85.3 million capacity improvement project is adding one lane in each direction to I-275 from north of I-4 to north of Hillsborough Avenue (U.S. 92) using the existing right-of-way.
Other improvements include constructing noise barrier walls along the corridor, installing fencing and Intelligent Transportation System devices, and reconstructing the overpasses between Floribraska Avenue and Hillsborough Avenue.

Due to high traffic volumes, some of the work will be done overnight.

This project is expected to finish in 2026.
